About UBIS
Purpose and Philosophy
The purpose of the UBIS is to provide each individual with a medium through which to promote and increase his/her personal experience through expanded comprehension of the text. The methodology employed for achieving this is the technique of questions and responses utilizing a non-interpretive pedagogy. As a subsequent purpose the UBIS also serves as an effective vehicle for training future teachers.
Method of Study
The UBIS has taken inspiration from the School of Evangelists (and other universe training schools), whose methods gave rise to the reading, question, response, and discussion format of UBIS courses. In this format, students read and respond to a set of questions. This is followed by a discussion period. During the discussion both teacher and students are engaged in asking further questions, sharing inspiration and harmonizing and coordinating the many views and perspectives from fellow students, many of who may be from varied cultural, philosophical and geographic backgrounds.
Rules of the School
- To interact with other students and teachers according to the spirit of the teachings of The Urantia Book by being respectful of the differing levels of comprehension, diversity of perspective and varied communication skills of fellow readers
- To adhere to class deadlines and study requirements
- To respect the privacy rights of fellow students by keeping course content, student responses, and discussion within the confines of the classroom site
- To use the classroom site for the discussion of course topics and refrain from engaging in discussion of non-related topics or texts
